Iowa’s first My Place Hotel open for business

The first My Place Hotel in Iowa officially opened in Altoona this week.

Located at 2281 S. 35th Street, the economy extended-stay hotel is the 33rd property in the fast-growing national chain.

The four-storey, 63-room hotel had a soft opening on August 17 and was immediately popular according to Misty Young, assistant general manager. "We were sold out the first weekend," she said.

Every room features a kitchenette with a full-size refrigerator, microwave and a two-burner stove. Each also has a cable television with 167 channels, and free Wi-Fi is available. The Altoona property is the only hotel in the entire chain with a swimming pool.

My Place Hotels of America LLC., based in Aberdeen, South Dakota, is a franchise company with local hoteliers Gary Friedenbach, the owner of the Council Bluffs hotel, with his son, Len, the general manager, taking the Altoona franchise.

My Place Hotels hopes to expand to 50 locations nationwide, including two more in Iowa, within the next year.

It’s been great, you have representation from the larger, more traditional operators as well as the new and emerging aparthotel operators. It’s fantastic to see them interacting with each other and it’s been great to be here.
